(Whittier, Calif.) — Culminating an extensive Superintendent/President search that engaged campus and community stakeholders, the Río Hondo Community College District Board of Trustees has appointed Don Moya-Miller, Ph.D., as the institution’s next Superintendent/President, effective July 1, 2026.
Dr. Moya-Miller currently serves as Vice President/Assistant Superintendent of Academic Affairs at Río Hondo College and brings a distinguished record of collaborative leadership, student-centered decision-making and an unwavering commitment to educational excellence.
“After a comprehensive search process and careful consideration of exceptional candidates, the Board is proud to select Dr. Don Moya-Miller to lead Río Hondo College into its next chapter,” said Rosaelva Lomeli, president of the Río Hondo Community College District Board of Trustees. “Dr. Moya-Miller’s deep understanding of our institution, demonstrated leadership and steadfast dedication to student success make him the right leader at the right time for Río Hondo College. We are confident in his ability to build upon the College’s strong foundation and help shape an even brighter future for our students and community.”
The Board also expressed sincere appreciation to Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss for her dedicated leadership in serving the College over the past year during this important transition period. Under her leadership, Río Hondo College continued advancing its mission of student success, institutional excellence and community impact while helping ensure a seamless leadership transition.
Dr. Moya-Miller has served in senior leadership roles across California community colleges, bringing broad experience in academic leadership, institutional planning and student success initiatives. Prior to joining Río Hondo College, he served as Vice President of Instruction at College of Alameda.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Spanish from the University of Virginia, as well as a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Brigham Young University. Throughout his career, Dr. Moya-Miller has been recognized for fostering collaboration, advancing academic excellence and championing student achievement.
The selection follows an extensive Superintendent/President search process that engaged campus stakeholders and community voices through finalist forums and opportunities for feedback. The Board carefully reviewed and thoughtfully considered input received throughout the process as part of its final deliberations.

As Superintendent/President, Dr. Moya-Miller will lead Río Hondo College in advancing its mission of educational access, student achievement, workforce preparation and community impact.
